Notes on: Biologique Recherche P50

You’ve probably heard of it, seen it, maybe even tried it—but do you know what it means?

First things first: this isn’t your average lotion. Biologique Recherche’s cult-favorite Lotion P50 products are closer in consistency to what would typically be described as a toner, packed with chemical exfoliant properties that gently dissolve the top layer of the epidermis to keep your face fresh and clear of pollutants and product residue.

The “P” in P50 stands for “peeling” and the 50 indicates the number of consecutive days the product should be used to achieve optimal epidermal regeneration. (For the skin nerds among us, this is two 25-day epidermal cycles.)

Before you purchase P50 from The Corner Suite, our staff will perform a Skin Instant diagnostic to determine which of the six unique product formulations are best suited to your skin.

Both 1970 formulations include phenol, a chemical exfoliant that helps to purify and brighten the skin. Phenol is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

No matter which formulation you choose, you may experience breakouts during the first two weeks of use—that’s just your skin acclimating. You may also feel P50’s signature tingling sensation, which is temporary, and serves as evidence that the rebalancing process has begun.

How to use:

The most common way to apply P50 is with a cotton pad, pre-dampened for the first week and then dry, on a completely clean face and decollete, without any rubbing or circular motions. If you’re new to the product, once a day is plenty, but eventually you can work up to using it during your morning and evening skincare routines.

P50 should never be used on children, nor should it be used on irritated skin or on an open wound or burn. P50 should also be avoided during vitamin A or acid-based treatments and immediately following a peel or laser treatment. After more invasive surgical facial treatments, discontinue use for a month to allow for skin healing.

Now for the fun stuff—which P50 is right for your line-up? The only way to know for sure is to stop by The Corner Suite for a Skin Instant diagnostic, but we’ll leave you with some quick takes:
